Titties:

Wow...sorry I haven't posted in a long time. I seriously have been incredibly tired...and for those of you who have hung out with me, or haven't hung out with me this past week because I was so tired, probably know why I'm so exhausted. Two words: Field School. I knew it was going to be hard working under the sun and moving dirt all day, but I didn't think it would be that bad, and apparently I thought wrong...again. I've been shocking my friends and my family this week by going to bed at hours that never seemed possible before. (It's also shocking me as well). I guess it wouldn't be as bad if we weren't working out under the sun, but since we are, it makes the situation worse. All I know is, that by the time field school is over with, I'm going to have a really awesome tan :)

But not all of our days weren't spent out under the sun, in fact, this week we had class down in Lincoln because we got rained out. The tarps we placed on the holes filled in and we literally bath tubs by the time we got out there. Also the only road out to the site is a dirt one, not good for non-4x4 vehicles when its raining...which we found out the first day of field school...

I leave for Ohio soon. I have mixed feelings about all of it. Hopefully the teachers out there are as cool as the teachers here. The professors teaching us at the Omaha site are just like their students...and they also have quite a mouth on them. I've heard teachers say things like "fuck" and "shit" before...but I've never heard them say things like "titties", that is until I took this field school. I'm not saying that the word "titties" is shocking to me, just that one of my professors using the word to describe breasts is somewhat disturbing. They've said other things that have shocked me as well, I just can't think of them at the moment. Not only do they say them once, but multiple times. I guess that's just why they call archaeologists the cowboys of science. In a way, it's kind of a good thing because it helps the students relate more to their teachers and makes them feel more relaxed in their environment, but also at the same time it jepordizes their respectability (in a way, but not completely).

Digging My Own Grave:

There are a lot of things competing for my attention right now. My family, my grandparents, field school, this blog, and my social life. Something had to give, and I chose my blog...which is why I haven't updated it in awhile...sorry.

Field school is fun, but exhausting. The teachers are really nice, and the other students are fun to hang out with. In fact, some of the teachers act just like the students, which really helps to create a nice friendly atmosphere.

The site I am working at is along the banks of the Missouri River behind Neale Woods. A painting by Titian Peale was used to locate the site. Also, various journals were found and they told of an engineer cantonment in the area. Using the journals and the painting, archaeologists were able to locate the first building/dwelling last year. This year we are trying to find the second one which is "supposed" to be behind it.

The first day out on field school it rained and turned the road into a muddy mess. One of the vans slid off the road into the ditch and we weren't able to remove it until two days later. That's because we got rained out again on Tuesday and couldn't even drive back down the road. Yay for sleeping in and doing nothing.

We didn't really find anything significant until today. All we really found were some rusted nails and some pieces of wire, mainly the barbed kind. This is evident of the farming settlement that used to be in the area. Actually, we found tons of snail shells 20 cm down. John and I decided that we were going to make a necklace out of them, and the one who wears it controls the dig, along with all of their snail minions to rule over the site. Anyway, further down, the square unit next to mine found an entire skeleton of a turkey, which was really cool, but had one downside. The "choice" pieces (pieces most likely to be eaten) of the turkey did not show any evidence of scavenging or tool use, which meant there was no human occupation. Crap.

Well, just when we gave up hope and began to reconsider the digging location, we hit pay-dirt...literally. A rich layer of ash was found in our unit. Pieces of bone and tons of charcoal were recovered from this layer. The unit south to ours didn't find anything, which means we are headed north in the future. This find is promising, but no one can say for sure if it is the second building.

Digging and sifting dirt all day makes me tired, so I'm going to consider sleeping soon. :)

Nevermind:

Change of plans...so I didn't go to the movie after all. I didn't want to spend any more money, and I was just too lazy to go all the way downtown. ;) Actually, the real reason is that my parents wanted me to stay home because I have to play drums at church tomorrow and I need to get up. So yeah...I'm supposed to be sleeping right now...shhh... ;) And yes Sam, I did sneak over to Sinely's, played "20 Questions", and smoked a cigar with you guys. Should I leave out the orgy part? Oh well... ;)

I'm going to my cousin Monica's graduation party tomorrow...or rather, today...since I'm writing this in the early morning. We'll be driving all the way out to West Point, Nebraska...well, it's not that far, but I guess I can get in a good nap. The party should be...interesting. Our family doesn't really spend a whole lot of time with my dad's side of the family - (my dad's sister's family). I guess things just got complicated ever since my uncle died from cancer and my aunt got re-married. There's a lot of other things I could go into, but nothing else I can pubically speak about. My dad's other relatives - (my dad's brother's family) live in Pennsylvania, too far away to spend a lot of time with. But since my cousin is graduating, they came down to stay with my cousins and our family for a week each.

Don't get me wrong, I love my grandparents - they give me money (j/k) :) - but after a week, it gets kind of annoying having to take them everywhere. Another important fact is that they are my Italian relatives, so that means they are loud and talk constantly. I think if they stopped talking, they would die... And I'm not the only one who thinks so, just ask my parents and they'll tell you the same thing. To complicate things even more, my grandparents are sleeping in my sister's room, so that means Andrea is sleeping with me in my room...sigh... And for those of you who have met my sister...you know what I'm talking about. She's gotten better over the past few years, but there are a lot of things that still need to be weeded out. Sigh...

I finally got my grades in, I was waiting on a few of them...lazy teachers. :) I got four A's, one B+, and a passing grade in my taekwondo class...hehe. Yay! I worked my butt off for some of those grades. Thanks to my anthropology classes, I think I have just about filled my quota for writing research papers, but I know there are still more to come...sigh. :|

Well, there's a long post for you...something I haven't done in awhile...a long while. Peace.

Back In O-Town:

Not much to do. I thought that once I got back, things would be better. I apparently guessed wrong. Bored, bored, bored. I spent all day sorting out all my clothes because I have no room to put the clothes I brought back from college. I need to get rid of a lot of clothes, some of them I can't fit into anymore, the rest, well...I just never wear anyway. If any of you want some clothes come on over. My sister has already sorted through the clothes that she wants. I seriously can't believe how much clothes I have...I don't know where it all came from.

Other than that, I've just been hanging out watching movies at people's houses. "Goonies" is the midnight moive at the theatre tonight, which is where I'm going now. Peace out.

Lincoln:

So yeah, I'm in Lincoln right now...don't tell my parents...they think I'm voting and doing other stuff. Well, I will be voting, just not right now. I seriously don't know who to vote for because I'm not up on all that political crap. But anyway, back to the Lincoln thing, I'm down here because I wanted to see if Lincoln was still in tact from when I left it on Friday. Actually, the real reason why I'm here is that I'm so freaking bored and I wanted to stop by and visit some people who got left behind...hehe.

Sorry I haven't been able to hang out with the rest of you guys since I got back. I'm attempting to catch up on the lost sleep I missed out on during final's week...and it's also the fact that I'm extremely lazy, but most of you already know that. :) Just give me a call on my cell and we can get together and do something, but you have to decide what we are going to do because I say so...so there...
