Take the Seven Deadly Sins Quiz
Thursday, January 26, 2006 Gradumatation:Well, I finally applied for graduation today. Getting everything figured out with my study abroad transcripts and credits was sort of a pain, but I guess that's what I get for taking part in a study abroad program while being a senior in college. Eventhough I got all that worked out (for the most part), deciding on where to go to graduate school is still stressing me out. Where I go affects my career for the rest of my life...it's not just something I can pick from a list. I've narrowed it down to my top four options. My top picks are one in Pennsylvania (Mercyhurst Archaeological Institute), two in Michigan (Michigan State University and Western Michigan University), and one in Tennessee (University of Tennesee). I'd rather avoid the southern part of the country at all costs, but they do have a really nice program down there. For those of you who don't know, I finally decided what field of anthropology to go into. I didn't fully like archaeology and didn't fully like physical/biological anthropology, so I decided on forensic anthropology. If you know of any other good graduate schools, let me know.
Friday, January 20, 2006 The Full 360:Well I guess it's time I got around to posting and I suppose it's a little late to say "Happy New Year" to all of you. Oh well, better late then never. The most recent news is that I finally got a X-Box 360. It hasn't crapped out or started my dorm room on fire, so I guess those are some positive things. I only have two games for it though: Condemned: Criminal Origins and Quake 4. I haven't even got around to playing Quake 4 yet, but Condemned is a pretty interesting game. I even felt my heart race a few times as I made my way around corners, and one time I had to turn all the lights on in my room so that I didn't freak out as much. The reason why I feel this game is just more than another FPS (First Person Shooter) is that it has RPG (Role Playing Game) qualities. You aren't just going around killing everyone in sight all the time. You have to do a lot of puzzle-solving and deeper thinking as well. It's like a FPS for CSI. I just bought Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory today, along with some printer ink. The colored inks for my printer were out of stock, so I guess the world will have to be black and white temporarily. I got my job as a Night Clerk back at HSS (Harper, Schramm, Smith) dorms. They also added on Husker Village, and I get to work a few nights there as well. It's a really nice facility. But I'm happy with my single room and not having to make my own meals and do dishes everyday. Classes are fun and interesting. I like my equitation class (horseback riding) a lot. It's a little difficult at times because you have to adapt to the horse's mood and have to understand what you can and cannot do around them. The hardest part I think is getting the saddle on. You have to fling it over the horse's back, which sounds easy, I know. But let me tell you, that thing weighs a ton, and both of the horses I trade off with are tall and a little chubby. The horse I primarily work with is named "Rusty," and my alternate is named "Zip." I haven't had a chance to work around Zip, so hopefully things go well. I rode Rusty once before when we had our riding evaluations to see which horse we should be assigned to. He was pretty well behaved then, but on Wednesday he was being a little butt-head. My teacher told me that you can't let him get away with things otherwise he'll run all over me, so I'll have to be a little more assertive around him. I only have seven people, yes that's "7" people in my Human Evolution class. There is only one guy in the class other than the teacher. I guess it really isn't any different from my equitation class because there aren't any guys in the class, including the teacher and the teaching assistant. The class I have with the most people in it would probably be my Japanese class. That seems to be going quite nicely. It's not as hard as the classes I took while over in Japan, so it should be a pretty easy-going class for me. My other class that has the same quality is my Archaeofauna class. I know the teacher who is teaching in because he was a supervisor on the field school I took two summers ago. He's a really easy-going guy himself, so it makes him a little more personable. We got to look at a few bones today and sorted out bags with identifiable bones and unidentifiable bones. We didn't get all the way in identifying the species, but we definitely got most of the animal family groups down. Well, I guess that's it for now. I think I'm going to do what most children and college students do best: take a nap.
